The National Judicial Education Program (NJEP)
The National Judicial Education Program (NJEP) promotes equal treatment for women and men in the courts by developing curricula and conducting trainings to educate judges, lawyers, law professors and law students about the ways gender bias can undermine fairness across the spectrum of civil, criminal, family and juvenile law, and how to prevent it. NJEP’s Understanding Sexual Violence {perhaps put a link to where these are available on your web site in the resources section?} curricula, videos and DVDs for judges and others explore how rape and sexual abuse cases can be handled so as to minimize retraumatization of victims without undermining defendants' constitutional rights. NJEP also leads the national gender bias task force movement in which high level task forces appointed by their state supreme courts investigate gender bias in their own jurisdictions in order to implement reforms. Established in 1980, NJEP is a project of Legal Momentum in cooperation with the National Association of Women Judges.
